WHY SUBSCRIBE TO WHOLESALE TED?
Hey there I am Sarah (aka Ted). My goal is to help new entrepreneurs grow & scale a business that is right for THEM!
Yes – the business that is right for THEM. Because I believe that time is the most valuable thing we have, and that we should spend it doing things that we love: and what I love may be different to what you love. Which is why on this channel I share:
* Examples & case studies of businesses that I enjoy (such as Print On Demand ecommerce businesses) and sharing my tips & strategies I've learned along the way.
* Examples & case studies of other businesses that entrepreneurs love running (even if I personally wouldn't find it fun myself!)
* Plus a sprinkle of entrepreneurial motivation thrown in too!
I hope my actionable content can help you: whether you're running your own online business, or are in the process of building one, and want some tactical advice to help you along the way. If that is you, subscribe today! 🔥

🤔 Do you agree with RedBubble & Midjourney’s copyright lawsuit victories? Or do you think they should have lost?
Those “victories” are kinda sickening to be honest, as any victory of a giant machine (Midjourney, Google, Disney etc) to a small person (the artist, especially small ones that are not dead yet lol).
But you’d be foolish to expect for a giant machine not to win.
Whoever invented humans should sue everyone!
I would love for you to use a photo of yourself as a “prompt image” and share it with us and gauge if it is a likeness of yourself something else. If it was your art, would you feel different?
I didn’t get to see the art in question, so unless it looks exactly or extremely similar to the original art, then Midjourney is in the right. I mean, we can go down the rabbit hole with copyright as to what is or is not copied. For example, someone draws/created the first dog and then the next person comes along and draws a specific breed…then the next person refines it again on the same breed but with longer hair in a different pose…is that copyright?
The dotted journals are usually for bullet journals. Just a different type of journal for different needs. Love your videos!!!
That is a fair point, they are also good for artists or people that like to doodle while also having the option to write notes as well. It’s a more niche market though compared to lined notebooks, and so I always found it strange that Printful didn’t include a lined notebook for everyone else.
It’s insane that this is the only journal they produced before. I mean, who uses these compared to standard notebooks… like 0.05% of all sales? lol But finally they made a regular one at least.
How does the saying go? “Good artist borrow, great artist steal” 😂
I wonder what bad artists do then )
Try to invent new stuff?
Kinda doesn’t work, kinda would make them good artists then 🙂
More like: all artists steal, good artists conceal their sources
@Walperion Music i read that quote from a famous artist, forgot who, it just sounded funny
More like FAKE artist steal.
Great video to keep us updated with the copyright lawsuit. I am happy that Midjourney won. I can sell their art in the future!
Cool. Just wait until people run massively pirated collections of movies through AI to generate new movies for sale. The court correctly identified the proper evidence required to prove infringement. These artists need to produce examples of infringing work themselves. They have all their source images and can put in the effort to generate images from the AI that are sufficiently similar.
I use midjourney daily but I definitely feel for the artist especially since their art was used in the data sets. There has to be some type of compensation. I dont expect anyone who isnt a artist to sympathize especially if they’re profiting off of midjourney. But they’re making ridiculous money and have enough spread around.
You also have learned and been inspired by someone else did you cut him a percentage of your income? Same for AI it doesn’t copy it creates its own original version so what’s the difference? Because is not a human isn’t a real argument.
PS. I’m also an artist.
LOL, this is like saying anyone who has written a song using the same 6 chords that most bands and artists use deserve compensation, its completely untrue and bonkers to assume.
I do understand why the artists are upset with MidJourney. However, that doesn’t mean they have a legit case. As a thought experiment, could I ask an artist to make me an image in the style of (let’s say) Banksy? Yes, I could. Then could I legally sell that image if it doesn’t look like any of Banksy’s actual paintings? I would say: Yes I could! So in effect, MidJourney is as the artist whom I asked to make me a picture in the style of Banksy.
In the Banksy scenario, it’s not exactly copying. Mid journey is taking actual images without permission. Then manipulating them for their benefit and profit. God forbid they pay the artist instead of stealing the art.
Midjourney does not manipulate any photos it scraped during training. They don’t “use” the images, besides as essentially a visual reference, like how people have saved & downloaded Anime art, and then used it to inspire their own drawings. Those people did not “manipulate” the art or “use” it, they just looked at it. That is what Midjourney does. It just looks at art, and learns from it. It’s a pretty big, common misconception that Midjourney actually uses the art to generate other art pieces, it never uses art during the generation process, and it’s honestly very understandable that people think this too. For awhile, people would even accuse Midjourney in my video comments of “photo bashing” which is essentially taking bits of pictures, and stitching them together, which Midjourney does NOT do at ALL.
But you aren’t hiring any artist. Many normal people couldn’t hire a big name artist. You would be just typing words on a screen. And AI does most of the work. I’ve been using Mid for a month. Very seductive. But is it good for creativity or the professional art, illustration, and photography world. Clients won’t value creativity if they think you only spent an hour typing prompts on a screen.
@Wholesale Ted What you are describing, sounds like fan art. Yes, you can be inspired, copy the images etc for anime, but it doesn’t mean you have a legal right to sell it. For example, I can be inspired by Mickey Mouse. I can draw a mouse, develop my own style and sell it. But if it ends up being too much like Mickey, Disney has every right to sue you.
It’s nothing like fan art at all. Fan art is when you take another intellectual properties characters or icons, and redraw it, in whatever style you want. Those characters and icons are protected by copyright. The art style that those characters or icons were drawn in, however, is not. It has already been ruled that art styles have no legal protection: https://creativecommons.org/2023/03/23/the-complex-world-of-style-copyright-and-generative-ai/
Great industry news update. Keep em coming.
Just FYI: The comments are already getting pretty, er, “negative” or “controversial” – I will not censor you, even if you disagree with me. But if you write your comment in an insulting way, or comment bomb the video with lots of comments, YouTubes algorithm has a 95% chance of blocking it. I want as much discussion as possible so please, keep it friendly! 🙏
I imagine portrait artists hated the camera when it was introduced. Art evolves. I’m not sure how you can claim infringement when it’s text that’s typed in. Maybe artists will need to trademark their names? I haven’t tried Midjourney yet but would like to play with it to see if I want to subscribe.
Correction EVERYTHING evolves over time.
But most people fear change, hence why there are always factions of humans complaining or fighting all the time.
The irony is the quicker you embrace change, the further ahead of the game you are.
Using AI is a new acquired skill just as anything else.
When you see how accurate some of these AI prompts are, it’s like coding to get a particular picture outcome.
The quicker that natural artists learn this skill too, they will be 10 x grater than what they currently are and 100x greater than the avg. person who uses AI
Thanks for keeping us up to date on these stories, WT. 👍
We all “scrape” art as we see it then make our own art inspired but what we like and know. Similar to what Midjourney is doing. My daughter learned to draw but making fan art of her favorite cartoons. Now all her art is Similar but not the same as those cartoons, it’s not stealing, it’s inspiration. IMHO
Well, Vishen Lakhiani once said: AI will not take people’s jobs. People who know how to use AIs will… So it’s pretty much you gotta learn new stuff so you don’t get left behind.
I have wanted warp text for soooo long. Yay! So cool! And wine glasses. I’m extremely happy about those. And when I get paid, I’m getting your book. I hope you are doing very well and having wonderful days and lots of success. Love all your videos. I’m a huge fan and think what you do for people and your kindness, your ability to help others who have no clue how to get past the daily grind, is so rewarding for us and amazing of you.
Great video! the judge is right, the art is used as an inspiration. it’s not a just a copy
I loved the cartoon corgi on there. I have a black/white brindle pointed cardigan corgi and it is so hard to find black/white cardigan corgi designs and hope someone will start making more of them 😉 I do find a lot of the black/tan/white tricolor pembroke which isn’t the same thing.
I think Redbubble should be jointly and liable with the seller for copywrite (not only for the money they take when that design is selling).
Sarah, I look forward to watching your new videos every time, I always find new and interesting things there. You were my first inspiration in POD 😊. I will always be your fan. Thank you!
What would happen if there was an EU type ruling demanding that MidJourney “forget” any artwork that was copyrighted by EU artists. They have a law now demanding that companies delete data on citizens if they request it, this applies to Facebook and alike.
I don’t think we need to get against AI art or something like chat gpt. Making similar style, but not exactly same picture as artist had made, fair use. Tools can not be fault like ai art generator or chatGPT, instead of blaming them just embrace, improve your workflow with them. AI progression keeps going even doctors will be helped by AI some day in future. Already seen big potential in that. Thank you for news and features updates.
I still use dot journals / dot notebooks to take notes at meetings and conferences. Dot journals tend to be made with better quality paper. The dots show enough of a line to follow when writing, the dot layout makes creating a grid or chart quick and easy, and my favorite is that the lines don’t stand out as much as ink for pdf, OCR, and google notes when shared with my team or added to a project file. I also use dot journals as a travel journal. I start each trip with pages for business expenses and personal, add receipt envelopes then along the way add ideas, parts of brochures, tickets, sketches and hp sprocket images. It’s a great way to share my trips with family and friends and to review even years later. While I realize I am in the minority, I for one, am grateful the dot notebooks are still being made.
