This quote is inspiring me today: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain
I totally misread this quote. 😅😮😂👍🏻
Thanks 😊

how do you handle returns and issues with the products ?
Hello, Sarah!
Thanks for the valuable content.
I understand that Canva images are rendered at 96 DPI, and t-shirt images do best with 300DPI+; so how were you able to eventually get a DPI of 300 or above for upload to Printify? Is there something you did while processing your images after downloading from Canva?
I’m wondering if Photopea helped with that.
7:49 is actually a dedicated section to saving images for print! When you increase the image size, when it is resized for the printing area, it will print in 300dpi. That is why Canva added in the 3.125x setting (it used to be 3x only, which meant it printed in 280dpi, but now it is the full 300dpi)
@@WholesaleTed Wow! 😀 This is so useful info. I use Canva Pro and didn’t know this. So happy I asked!
Cheers, and Happy New Year!
Hi Sarah, I have a question about using Canva for POD. If I have a Canva Pro account can I use any of the Pro elements and fonts as long as I combine the clip art with text or should we only use the “FREE” elements? I’m just wondering because I’ve seen some people saying you can’t upload Canva elements to POD sites, but maybe that’s only the case if we don’t use the elements combined to make a unique design. Thanks for any info you may have on this. Thanks for another great and helpful video!!!
Great question. Canva have clarified you can use their pro elements as long as you do not sell them as is. You must do something like combine them with text to turn them into a new design. There was drama/rumors that falsely spread, earlier last year from people who said you couldn’t do that, and so now unfortunately there are a bunch of wrong videos on YouTube that were released during those rumors. Canva came out and released a statement saying they weren’t true 🙏
Thank you so much for that clarification. I LOVE using Canva, and that is very good to know ☺
Happy New Year Sarah! I am going to follow this step by step. Thank you for putting your knowledge out there to help others – God Bless you from Tacoma, WA.
🎉 Happy New Year! I wish you & your family a prosperous & happy 2024 🎉
It’s interesting how such a simple design can go so far, isn’t it? Great video btw! Very informative quality content as always. Love the editing as well 🙂
Amazing tips and hints. I hope to start my Etsy store this year. I appreciate you!
I honestly think the people who say ‘etsy is over-saturated with POD’ are the ones copying other’s bestsellers and hitting those high-comp niches like nursing and dog parents. I’m researching my own store and I’ve found a honeypot of a niche; huge demand, low supply. Better yet I understand the customer bc I’m one of them, but every time I research an idea i find a niche that’s just not being supplied. Developing the ability to have ideas and research them is 90% of a shop’s success.
I absolutely love your videos Sarah. They are so inspiring.
I obviously struggle with selecting the right subject matter and designs for good sales. People say they like them, but not enough to put money down 🥴
Maybe one day I will hit on a good idea and successfully carry it through
I already have design software, so I never really got into Canva when subscribed at an earlier time. This time, with help of another pro trial period, I gave Canva an earnest try… and I can say… I’m quite impressed with the supply of elements and features. I haven’t used the AI feature yet, but I’m sure that’s about to happen. Midjourney seems to be going off the deep end sometimes. Anyway, thanks for posting this video. I’m reawakened to Canva since they’ve cleared up the copyright issue.
Can you please expand on how Canva cleared up the copyright issues? Aren’t all these things owned by Canva, therefore not allowed to be used for commercial sales?
Canva’s license rules, which clarify you can use their pro elements (as long as they’re not standalone) are here: https://www.canva.com/help/licenses-copyright-legal-commercial-use/
A lot of rumors/myths were spread earlier last year stating you couldn’t use them, but they were wrong, and Canva clarified the issue!
hey ted thanks for the helpful guide, your videos are helping me with my new sticker startup
If you use up all of the letter counts for a title, will people find it unusual if the titles are super log? or does it not really matter
On Etsy they won’t care, it’s very normal! But you don’t need to use them all. The Etsy algorithm is getting more & more sophisticated and it has a new system for recommending items, rather than just off of keywords. I have a video that discusses it here: https://youtu.be/v3jE2qNt3I8
Happy new year! Amazing video Sarah! I’ve got a couple questions:
How many designs did you add before you got some succes? And how much time did you spend on your store up to that point vs now? And how many designs do you keep adding per week or month?
Many thanks, I appreciate you so much!! 🙏
Happy New Year to you too! I wish you and your family a happy & prosperous 2024.
I will be honest, I actually have no idea, I didn’t really track it. It was truly something I just did in my spare time and I was pretty busy when I first launched it and took me a few weeks just to get my first 20 products up in it. I think I got my first sale around item 20 being added in. So it probably took 2-3 weeks? It is a snowball effect, that is why the Etsy 30-day experiments you see on YouTube are, IMHO, not a good experiment to run. To run a true experiment I believe you need to do it over several months because of the way the algorithm works, it snowballs: https://youtu.be/v3jE2qNt3I8
How much time I spend is super variable: it was anywhere from 2-20 hours/week chipping away at it depending on how much spare time I had and how much I got inspired to work on it, LOL! How many designs I add is also super variable. If you averaged it out, it is probably 1-3 designs a day, but I don’t always upload daily, that is just what it would be if you averaged it out, if that makes sense 🌞
@@WholesaleTed Thank you so much for your detailed answer Sarah, I didn’t expect that 🙏🌞. I already run 2 online businesses and have a family, so I have to consider the time investment before starting something new. But this sounds super encouraging, plus I’m always in it for the long run. Thanks again and a big hug from The Netherlands 🤗
I really appreciate your precise and actionable content, thank you so much! I have a question regarding the elements from canva. I normally create my stickers in another software. Would it be allowed to download a single element from canva and then add text/ modify the element in another software or do they want that you modify the element within the canva app? Thank you❤
Pretty sure this is allowed for the free elements, but not the premium elements. If you’re going to use Canva for your business, definitely read through their license agreement. They also have a video that explains the rules and gives examples.
It’s not allowed to use canva pics alone for selling, adding text is not enough. I dont know why she didnt get problems with copyright. Also not every font is for Business using allowed, but i so much of them.
This is false information. This design is absolutely within their licensing rules. I’ve been in communication with the license team before. This is what a unique design counts as:
“If you have a Canva Pro subscription, you can add Canva Pro images to your design as long as you make modifications to them. Changing colors, resizing the images, or combining multiple elements are considered modifications.”
This design does many, many of these:
1) It resized images.
2) It changed the colors.
3) It combined multiple elements (text + the image)
There are so many made-up rules about Canva’s licensing rules floating around. The short of it, is that you can’t just sell an image as-is 🙏
@Laura in regards to your question – I think it might be technically illegal to download any of their pro images as a standalone element, even if you plan to add text somewhere else. I am unsure of that however, and you would need to contact the Canva license team for more information. Their license rules all state to not download elements as a standalone file. That is a complicated question!
@@WholesaleTed ok, i will try to modify it in canva then, i prefer not taking a risk. Thank you very much❤️
Your content is gold, I can’t thank you enough.❤
Great video Sarah as ever! Thank you.
Great pieces of advice, it definitely works, but for me, it wasn’t passive. All those presale and post-sale questions on Etsy… Soon after reaching a couple of thousand a week, I switched to downloadable items only. Still getting some how-to download, how-to open, how-to edit questions… 😂
Honestly, I just don’t get many messages at all. I do have a very descriptive description, so a lot of questions will be answered in that. It is funny though, how many questions that downloadable products can still get, LOL!
@@WholesaleTed Yeah, the #1 question/complaint is – I downloaded the file but there’s nothing… It means a person downloaded a ZIP file on their phone and has no idea how to unzip it (despite the provided read-me PDF with instructions and even alternative download links) 🙂
Another awesome video – Thank you Sarah! I have just started a new etsy shop to focus on a new niche. I haven’t had any success using etsy Ads other than losing money. I have heard people mention that you shouldn’t turn on Etsy ads until you reach the organic traffic down the road.. But from your video you turned them on instantly. Do you have any guidelines for Etsy Ads and how to use them to make money and not just throwing money out the window? 😅
This is so helpful! Thanks so much for everything you put up here!
Thank you for the content. I want to do POD products, but I’m apprehensive about the customer service. How do you handle returns?
Kia ora Sarah, I did it! Not sure how well I did in setting up my store on Etsy. You made it look so simple and for me, it wasn’t lol. I’ve been following you for a while and have been taking mental notes. Anyway, my first product is live! I won’t give up my day job but thank you.
