  1. Gillian these are some of the valuable recommendation on making first impressive video on YouTube. I agree with your idea on not making too much expectations of the efforts put in to it. Improving it time by time with considering useful comments and critique will further improve the video quality and the audience. ✨🌟

  2. Thanks Gillian! I’m a little bit too far along (almost on my 25th vid lol) but I will definitely implement these tips moving forward. Having fun so far but am always looking to improve. 🙂

  3. Thanks for these useful tips! I filmed my first video recently and I was feeling sooo awkward 😂 Hope this will improve with practice!

  4. Love the simplicity that you so beautifully remind us to focus on when making our first videos. You are so right that most of the time your first video will not end up doing much traffic wise but so much for our learning process and for improving our style for sure! I had an unexpected thing happen on my cake decorating channel that actually ended up having one of my very first videos go totally wildly viral! It just took about 3 years for it to finally happen. After 3 years I started earning an average of $20/mo in ads on that one video. (Literally the first one I ever filmed and about the 2nd one I ever uploaded. Yes, I uploaded them in backwards order, my icing one first and my how to bake a cake one second, even though I actually baked that cake first before making icing for it. tee hee) But back then I had no clue what I was doing. 11 years later, after years of learning more about how YouTube works, and adjusting a few very simple things, like title, description and keyphrases it’s not doing an average of about $150/mo. For a cake that cost me about $20 to make and about 3 hours to film, make, bake, edit and upload!) But most of my other videos definitely didn’t go viral. I just kept at it and one day realized I had over 1 Million views and had earned over $4000 in ad revenue! What? Yup, it can really happen, and that was the slow … uninformed way to go about it. Now with Gillian’s amazing videos to help you, I know you will make my random success look tiny in comparison! Great video Gillian! You’re a STAR! <3 Oh and side Note: Definitely go and check out Gillian's videos on creating quality Thumbnails, I've learned so much and been able to make mine better ... again the only exception seems to be that first viral video. I've tried many different thumbnails over the years and it just keeps coming back to viewers liking my original, YouTube auto-chosen, one! Go figure! Keep filming, keep uploading, keep giving quality content. Hugs.

  5. I am trying to work up the courage to make my first video and the lighting, along with editing programs, seem to be my biggest set backs. This has been very helpful in confirming what I already figured I needed to do with the content portion. Thanks for the links to some good programs to use for the editing.

  6. I just wanted to say I love how organized and on point your videos are Gillian! They are very easy to follow and love the way you organize the information. Great Tips! I hope to start my channel soon! 🙂

  7. This is a long awaited jewel video. The best and simple explanation that will inspire to finally take an action and do it. This was brilliant in its topic and execution. Many thanks.

  8. Yes! I agree with simple editing, I started out my first three video’s with tons of transitions and I’m glad you touched on the first video’s because now I’m starting to cringe LOL But I’m learning quickly! Thank you!

    1. omg I know how it’s like to cringe at my old content lmaooo, my old channel was like that, but hey the good thing is that we eventually improved, which is great. ^w^

    1. Zai could please upload a video describing the editing process in detail, and reviewing the editing software you use. Thanks

  9. Thank you for your great tips Gillian. Currently, I’m still using the simplest equipment and the most challenging part for me is to find a quiet place to record my videos.. 🙂 Best of luck to all of us who’s starting a journey in YouTube!

  10. Thank you again and again and again Gillian I enjoy watching you in every chance I have. Love your quality content and the effort you put on helping others

  11. This was a great insight into how you make your videos and had some really good tips in there! I found that ‘hitting record’ was sooo hard… Now only 7 published videos in… but about 250+ purely practise videos later… I’m fiiiinally starting to feel a little more comfortable about the whole ordeal.. 😅

  12. You are an amazing teacher….You can maintain professionalism in starting our youtube channel—from personal appearance to organizational skills and preparedness for each day…..Thank you!

  13. I love making YouTube videos especially when I edited them coz that’s what makes your video stand out from the others and being yourself on camera hopefully the smaller channels can pull through this together and work as a team to grow ❤️

  14. I pray everyone that reads this comment his channel becomes successful sooon.

  15. Thank you so much for making this to help out us newbies to the scene. I recently decided I was going to make a channel, but I honestly didn’t even know where to start when it came to my first video. This laid out plan has helped me get a clearer picture on how to start.

    1. bro why haven’t you started yet! Your channel looks like it’d be fun! I clicked and didn’t see anything yet, I wish you the best on starting

  16. I have watched a lot of these kinds of videos and this is probably the most easy one to stay interested. I am starting a channel from scratch and I definitely think that I am making some progress. Thank you!!
